Artifact: I have included my final paper for this course as it gave me time to reflect on an unethical dilemma I faced and helped me analyze how I overcame it and what I learned from the situation as a leader. This type of reflective thinking is something I will continue to do as I face more dilemmas as a leader in the future.

ORGL 610: Communication & Leadership Ethics

Through critical thinking and analysis this course gave me ethical decision-making tools and principles to communication and social justice issues. It not only challenged me to think of my own personal ethics but also of those and the world around me and how the two align. The most important part of this course was identifying our own personal biases and knowing we all have them regardless of who we are and what we do.

This course taught me the importance of recognizing this and moving from it to provoke change in unethical dilemmas. It taught me to recognize and face my engrained biases, it taught me to unravel that way of thinking so I can understand people around me on a deeper level without putting a wall up before even interacting.  In Communication Ethics Literacy, Arnett stated, "Learning is the anchor in an era that rebels against universalistic foundations. Difference opens the door to learning. Dialogue opens the door to other persons and ideas." We learn and grow from what is different and challenges us not from what comes easy. This is why I found this course so meaningful. I want to keep challenging myself to face my internal biases and discuss in depth with those who view the world differently.
